| The moment I have always dreaded has finally arrived; it is time to sell my precious house boat. But not to worry, I am just planning on upgrading to a bigger version to accommodate my growing family. With so many fond memories of great times spent on my current house boat it will certainly be hard to part with my boat.
I know that everyone has different reasons for living on a boat and we all have our own special memories that we cherish, but when I take a moment to reflect and I think back about all the wonderful and special times it is truly hard to decide which of these is the fondest memory of all. In fact, I can’t possibly choose from so many that I have decided to compile a top 10 list of my fondest memories of family life aboard a houseboat to share with you.
Number 1 is having a morning coffee and enjoying seeing the sun rise in a wonderful moment of peace and quiet and this will be a memory I treasure forever. Likewise, evenings spent sitting with a cold glass of beer, watching the sun going down and sharing the moment with a fellow house boater was definitely worthy of making it in as Number 2.
When it rains in the night in a house boat the ‘pitter-patter‘ of rain drops on top of the boat roof can be very calming – as long as you know you don’t have too many leaks! In fact I always end up sleeping like a baby when the rain comes so that makes it as Number 3. I have been lucky enough to be able to work from my house boat and I have to say having a house boat office most definitely makes it into my top 10 as Number 4. And Number 5 is when I am in my house boat I always feel like I am on holiday without even having to leave the dock. When I do decide to up anchor and go off on a holiday, it begins right from the moment I start the engine and that has to be Number 6 of my top 10 fondest memories .
One of the things I used to hate about living in a conventional house was having to sweep the driveway and mow the lawns – so the happy times with no more lawn mowing definitely gets included in my top 10 list as Number 7. Also I just love the fact I can wake up and pop out onto the deck and fish for my breakfast, so this is Number 8. I can’t say I always catch something but it is all about the experience of that early morning fishing off the back off the boat without having to get in the car or to walk far! Having wonderful neighbours in the marina is a lovely memory for me and comes in at Number 9; enjoying coffees on fellow boaties decks, evening BBQ’s and sharing a laugh over the trials of house boating kept me coming back for more. So finally to Number 10 – and it is simply everything above all rolled into one great big wonderful time living aboard.
So sadly now the time has come to sell my boat on www.pureboats.com. It will be hard to say goodbye to her but I am looking forward to creating memories on my new house boat. You never know, you might even be so inspired by my top 10 fondest memories of living on my house boat that you will decide to make a life for yourself aboard a boat. It will be one of the best decisions of your life; one that you will never regret!
